My son is 10 years old and enjoys his violin lessons.
Reason why I decided to purchase a violin, to increase his motivation.
After reviewing a number of reasonably priced options, this particular item cought my interest.
Beautifully looking, decent reviews, a number of included extras, great price.
I should have not gambled buying it, since other people complained about the same issues with quality and manufacturing defects.
Like I said, it looked beautiful, but other than that, my ignorance about the instrument saw nothing else.
After my son's instructor spent less than a minute giving it a look, she pointed out the unaligned neck (my term)in relation to the body of the instrument.
Broken tail piece string... anyway, you get the picture... defective!
I just sent it back, after being bounced around from Amazon customer care, to the seller and back to Amazon; who politely, accepted giving me a return authorization.
Decided to make the effort and spend a bit more, and purchase an instrument from a local store; that gives us the advantage of inspecting the item and know that the new violin is in perfect shape.
In the end, you decide! |
Great violin with one fault...

The violin and all the accessories looked beautiful. The case was great quality, the rosin also looked like good quality and came with it's own beautiful wooden box! There were even extra strings and a pad to put over the violin to protect it from the bow when you close the cover.
The violin itself was beautiful- the wood almost glowed! The pegs were a little loose and had a hard time keeping tuned but it happens & can be easily fixed with some peg drops. I tuned it and played each string once and BAM! the tailpiece gut popped! For those who don't know, the tailpiece is the "triangular" piece at the bottom that all the strings tie into. That is held onto the violin with a "gut" that wraps around a little knob near where you put your chin. That plastic gut snapped. I tried fixing it three times, restringing the violin and playing it but it was no good. either the screw holding the gut in place was stripped or the gut was just not long enough anymore. I brought it to a luthier but he suggested I send it back for a new one.
Only problem is, because their inventory is constantly changing, they can't send you a new one- you can only get a refund. So now I have to wait for them to get it back, wait for the refund and then shop around for a new one. Then I have to wait for that new one to come in the mail!
If you have the time- take the chance. It's a great starter violin, great looking at a great price, the customer service is fantastic and the shipping was FAST! But, if you need the violin for a certain event or by a certain time, don't take the chance. If there's anything wrong with it you can't get another one and you'll have to wait like I do. |

I have always wanted to learn how to play the violin. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that I've always wanted to do, and I was worried that the violin would be one of the ones that I didn't want to do forever. So when I decided to get a cheap violin to test this out, I wanted to know exactly what I was going to get -- and get it I did.
This isn't the most handsome violin, nor are the strings of a particularly high quality. I had trouble keeping it tuned when I first got it, the bridge doesn't fit perfectly, and I had to spend over two hours trying to get enough rosin on the bow. I was rather pleased to find out that I wouldn't have to string it myself.
I expected all of this from reading these reviews.
I have been playing my violin for two days now. I have not had any trouble keeping it tuned since the first day (the strings are of low quality, so they had to stretch a little first before they would stop making the pegs spin). In fact, I took it out on a frigid night and fooled with it a bit, brought it back home and found that it was still in tune despite me having romped around with it.
Obviously this isn't the best violin in the world, but that is why I have it, because I am not the best violinist in the world. Maybe, when I start to sound a little better, I will upgrade the strings, buy a proper bow, et cetera, but for now I am content.
Also, my rosin came in one piece, not crumbled as many other people have said. I don't know if this was just me. |
