This is well constructed of wood and will likely last forever. Fun to play once you figure out that the hole in the back needs to be covered in order for the rest of the notes to change pitch.

The toy is plastic, but seems well made and my 4-year old niece really enjoyed it. She had no trouble playing it! The only drawback is there are only 2 or 3 "songs" that come with it on the box. The saxophone is color-coded and can play different notes easily.

This recorder has been a good instrument so far. It is perfectly adequate for small children. They tend to just toot it anyway. I tried it out as well and my particular recorder has decent tone for being a toy. It hasn't been thrown -yet- so we'll have to see what happens.

My 5 year old daughter received this recorder for Christmas. She's been wanting one for a while and decided that's what she was asking Santa for. Unfortunately, my 2 year old just threw the recorder down on our CARPETED family room floor and the top part of the recorder cracked and popped off. The plastic recorders usually disassemble into 3 pieces. This one, however, does not. It is one solid unit. Now, my 5 year old is downstairs crying and wanting another recorder. She'll have to have this exact one, or it won't be the same. I will buy another one, because it's like the first one. That's the only reason. The quality of this product is substandard to our many other Melissa and Doug toys. Don't expect too much from this one.

Bought it because of its reputation and the 2 positive reviews, but very very dissappointed of it, no pitch at all, sounds very unclear, hollow and quiet annoying, total disaster. Perhaps it's just mine ?... I don't know.
